Let’s start of with the title of my blog – sushi1869 – well, that is me, I am sushi1869. It is my current AIM screen name and has been since 2002. I’m sure your first guess is that maybe I like eating sushi, but the truth is that it is a nickname I have had since I was about 10 years old, and I didn’t even try sushi until I was probably 20. Yes, I fell in love with sushi then, but I received the nickname Sushi for another reason. The story goes a little like this: My best friend in fourth grade had the last name Finlayson, and for some reason our group of friends dubbed him “Fiddle-with-my-weenie-son.” Well, I guess we all had to have nicknames and somehow my last name evolved into sushi. The name really stuck when my soccer coach at the time continued to call me sushi, to help differentiate between the two other guys on the team with the same first name. So it became my name on the soccer field, so much that people from opposing teams asked if it was my real name, and some only knew me by that name. As for the 1869, well I had a previous account with a unique number, but I lost the password to that account, and so I created a new one ending with the number 1869, the year that Kappa Sigma fraternity was established.

*The logo is a graffiti representation of an icthus, easily known as the Jesus fish. When I describe it as such, you might understand it’s significance. Sushi is often made with raw fish, and the icthus was the first symbol I thought of when I thought of fish. Well the icthus soon became a part of my signature and the logo could often be found graffiti-ed on the cover of my binders, folders, and even a friend’s bathroom wall. For as long as I can remember, I have told myself that this would be my logo – for whatever reason I needed a logo – and so this blog is my first opportunity to use it.

So, why a blog, and why now. Well, I have recently become an avid blog reader, and with all the thoughts, questions, and comments I felt a blog would be the best opportunity to share them with the world and to receive feedback to gain a greater perspective on things. With that said, this blog is meant for me and I will most likely post an array of topics. I don’t really have a target subject, but more a target audience – anyone like me, either partial or nearly identical. Just to give you an idea of what to expect my interest include: organization (also known as lifehacks) , computer design and development, sports (predominately soccer and Texas Longhorns football), technology and gadgets, food (restaurants and cooking), bargains, and the Green lifestyle. So be prepared to be entertained by my spectrum of topics!
